Day 1 of New Orleans

I am finally back after such a longggg hiatus. And boy am I glad to be back! =)

I just came back from New Orleans with my friend, Trizza, where we had the pleasure of attending our very first Mardi Gras! We were welcomed by extremely friendly locals and visitors from different states and various countries . New Orleans means business with this celebration and there were no evidence of any short comings. The southern cooking was just exceptional, trying everything from crawfish to oysters and even alligator meat. Over the next few posts, I will be sharing my amazing experiences in Nawlin's on a day to day basis.

more after the jump...

As soon as we got to New Orleans, we dropped off our bags in the hotel and decided to pay Bourbon St. a visit. The street was party central; filled with elaborately costumed individuals,  drunks, flashers, performers, the friendliest of people and what I would call the "Jesus Preachers" that stood in the middle of street with their big protest signs and megaphones at hand - protesting and claiming people who were enjoying the celebration to be sinners. But that didn't stop anyone from having a good time.

The night was young and the party went on. You were allowed to carry your drinks in the streets as long as they were not in bottles.  Bars with live bands and blaring music were all over Bourbon St. and the great thing was, there was no cover charge for any of them. You had the option of just walking in and checking out of every bar. You cannot find this anywhere else. Balconies were filled with people with loads and loads of beads at their disposal. Throwing beads at anyone they please, some required you to work for it but most were just doing it for fun.
